Coming Soon!!!! Demonstration Videos using tools!
Any number of tools can be used for various inlaying and incising techniques used in encaustic. From dental tools to ceramic, tiling and sewing tools, anything you come across with a metal tip will work towards achieiving various effects. It is recommended you not use any synthetic or plastic bristle brushes as they will decompose in the wax. Fusing is a necessary part of the encaustic process. Once wax is applied to the surface, it is necessary to reheat each subsequent layer for proper adhesion by usng a Heat Gun, Tacking Iron or Blow Torch.
Clay tools are ideal for working with encaustic. From left, the Inlaying Tool to carve into the wax, an Awl, used for making finer etched lines and the Loop tool used to scrape remaining wax away that is inlayed into lines. |

Hog hair brushes such as these are best for use with encaustic. Chip brushes such as those on the right, are the most economical. The brushes on the left carry more wax and are used for working larger. |
The best tools for fusing are from left; the Tacking Iron, available at most art supply stores, the Trigger Operated Benzomatic Blow Torch or the Wagner or Milwaukie Heat Gun. The Blow Torch and Heat Gun are also handy for cleaning your metal tipped tools. Both are available at hardware stores.
