All Wagner Encaustics colors are densely pigmented and made with the finest quality raw materials available and 100% pure beeswax. No extenders of any kind are used to make our paints. We hand mix every batch of color which is why we encourage you to mix each color thoroughly once molten as pigment will settle to the bottom. Reuse and recycle is very important to us at Wagner Encaustics. Each one of our colors comes in a handy re-usable can. An added value to our packaging enables you to reuse the can and its lid to thin colors with our Encaustic Medium or lighten colors with our Titanium White. Availability of pigment, resin and beeswax is continually fluctuating and consistency may vary. While we ensure the highest quality control to continue offering our rich pigmented encaustic colors, very slight changes in materials may occur depending on availability.

Ochres are among the oldest known pigments to man so it is no wonder they were commonly used as primary yellow in ancient encaustic painting as early as 3000 B.C. Our Yellow Ochre is made with French Sofodor Ochre pigment. This particular French ochre has one of the highest tinting strengths and is completely lightfast. |
A natural earth Red Iron Oxide mineral pigment obtained from quarries, Venetian Red is not a particularly bright red. The first red primary ever in existence, their fine subtle tints appealed to Ancient Greeks. Venetian Red is completely lightfast with a high tinting strength. Although it has excellent hiding power, Venetian Red’s transparency also lends itself well to glazing. <order now> |
Named after the bamboo grove outside Wagner’s studio, Bamboo Green is made from Chromium Oxide Green pigment. This green is perfectly lightfast with an excellent tinting strength. When thinned with our Cairo Clear Encaustic Medium, it makes subtle sage greens.. <order now> |

Another natural red iron oxide pigment, Burnt Sienna is turned red by calcination. Perfectly lightfast with a good hiding power, it is excellent for mixing with other colors and lightening into a sepia glaze with our Cairo Clear Encaustic medium. <order now> |
A natural earth, Burnt Umber is prepared much like other earth colors, related to the ochres with a high manganese dioxide content that gives the color its brown appearance. Burnt Umber has a fairly high tinting strength, is lightfast and not particularly transparent. |
This mostly opaque Mars Black has excellent hiding power making it a true artist’s black. Mars Black has three times the tinting strength of other blacks. This opaque black will need more than usual amounts of medium to achieve transparent blacks. Mix our Mars Black with our Titanium White to make various grays . |

This organic yellow is produced from Diarylide pigment. The pigment’s large particle size lends itself to high opacity levels and better light fastness. Pyramid Yellow will need more than usual amounts of Cairo Clear Encaustic Medium added to achieve glazes. Use Pyramid Yellow to mix shades of green with our Corfu Blue or shades of orange with our Isis Red. <order now> |
Named after the Greek Island of Corfu, this artificial mineral pigment is made by combined calcinations of sulfur and sodium carbonate to resemble genuine Ultramarine Blue. This particular tint of Ultramarine is reddish with a high tinting strength that is completely lightfast. One of the best glazing pigments available, we suggest adding our Cairo Clear Encaustic Medium to the Corfu Blue for beautiful glazing results. Use to mix shades of purple with our Isis Red or shades of green with our Pyramid Yellow. |
Named for the Egyptian Goddess of Magic and Giver of Life, our Isis Red is made with an organic Napthol Zinc Oxide. This particular Napthol has a red orange tint and is perfectly lightfast and opaque. Use to mix shades of purple with our Ultramarine Blue or shades of orange with our Pyramid Yellow. |

This dense opaque white is made with pure Titanium Dioxide pigment. Titanium White’s superior tinting strength along with its extraordinary permanence makes it perfect for building ground surface or lightening existing colors. Also, thin with Cairo Clear Encaustic Medium to create transparent white wash veils and use to lighten colors. |
This is the medium of encaustic. Like water in watercolor and linseed oil in oil painting, CairoClear Encaustic Medium is the vehicle that binds with and carries the pigment. All of our colors originate from its initial ingredients of the highest-grade clear beeswax and dammar resin. Add this medium to thin colors and create subtle glazing effects. Also, use to apply collage materials, photos and small objects. |
